Iti Kahurangi celebrates Matariki

Ka puta Matariki ka rere Whānui.
Ko te tohu tēnā o te tau e!

Matariki reappears, Whānui starts its flight.
Being the sign of the new year!

Matariki, as the Maori New Year, is a special time for celebration, culture, remembrance and spirituality.  To celebrate Matariki, Iti Kahurangi decided to have a Whanau kai on Friday.  We began with a korero from Whaea Awhina and then our Kahurangi Kapa Haka tamariki performed some waiata for us.  Then we all got to enjoy our feast.  It was a great celebration and it was lovely to share it with some of our parents.  A special thanks to Whaea Awhina for organising the celebration for all of us!

Dance 4 Asthma Competition

A group of our Year 5/6 girls put together an entry for the Dance 4 Asthma Competition.  We are aiming to win people's choice, which is based on the most views of their dance video on YouTube.  Please, please watch!  (As many times as you like) and share with your friends.  We think they did really well - they choreographed and organised the whole dance themselves!

Well done, girls!
